EFCC USING CORRUPTION TO FIGHT CORRUPTION

Day by day Nigerians are given reason to question the professionalism and genuineness of the EFCC i.e Economic and financial crime commission. The former first lady of Nigeria has accused EFCC of gathering four men to impersonate four registered companies  and extracting  guilty pleas from them in a bid to seize her "hard earned money". The problem with many Nigerians is that we are no longer objective in our private thoughts. We have become blind people following a voice blindly. When we hear something we ask who said it rather than what was said. Every company representative can easily be verified and the directors of a company should be able to decide who should  represent a company in court. In this case EFCC has taken the case personal, refused to verify the authenticity of the men , induced them to plead guilty to money laundering charges and pleaded for speedy trial to conclude the matter. By all means fight financial crime but do not use corruption to fight corruption. In fact EFCC has not cleared its name of several accusations of contempt of court orders and abuse of rights. Money is a sensitive issue and should be respected. The abuse and maltreatment of locals in possession of money will discourage the outsiders who want to bring money and invest. No wonder every investor is withdrawing from Nigeria and locals who have money are hiding them in pit latrines. Those countries like Panama and Cayman that accept money of various types into their banks for safe keep are doing it for a reason. Every country or economy that fails to respect money will see money disappear from her shores.
