BUHARI SEEKS MORE POWERS AFTER JOHN KERRY'S VISIT

Following the emergency visit of United States Secretary of States, John Kerry, Buhari has been jolted into action. You can bet that he stayed up late several night after that and has come up with plans to seek emergency powers that will last one year and the aim is to jump start the economy of Nigeria. The problem here is that we did not hear that the best economists are meeting or that manufacturers are being asked what they need. or that the state governors gave their own input. At a time that people are saying that a Nigerian president has too much powers, a president is seeking more powers. In Nigeria, expertise and consensus is not necessary for an action because sentiment is plays more prominent role than research works and findings. It is true that capital projects will stimulate economy but owing workers salary will paralyze it in more profound way. Moreover many people handling the capital projects are going to send their incomes abroad or share their outrageous profits with rich shareholders that are already comfortable. Nigerians will only smile if the politicians are paid less, minimum wage is increased 10 jets are sold off ,salaries are paid and reforms are started. Otherwise I am afraid Nigeria is playing hide and seek with total collapse.
