Mr. Garba Shehu and his colleague Femi Adesina are no doubt going through an existential struggle as they try to defend the actions and inaction of Buhari, render excuses for wrong outcomes and placate the sufferings of Nigerians all at the same time. It was Femi Adesina that tried to defend the elderly in Nigerian politics by saying that their mental age is lower than their chronological age. Ordinarily that would mean that they are mentally retarded because a child with chronological age of 15 and mental age of 5 should behave like a 5 year old. However Nigerians did not hold that against him because where there are no expectations, body language alone is adequate for communication.So also in one of his defensive tweets, Garba Shehu has said that Buhari is a victim of tyranny of expectation.In other words he is saying that Nigerians had wicked and unreasonable expectations from Buhari. I hope he was part of Buhari's campaign trail and witnessed when Buhari promised heaven and earth. Of course people must fight to keep their lucrative job in the best funded sector of the Nigerian economy. However when you make promise and fail and get people to deny excuse and deceive people, it is your integrity that is being mortgaged. The next time you make promise or say something, people who know your antecedent will laugh in regret and ask "You are still talking?"
