The Nigerian Electoral umpire Mr. Yakubu may have confirmed the fears of some skeptical Nigerians that the gains of electoral reforms effort of past administration in Nigeria have been lost and reversed to default. For him to tell Nigerians in 2016 that he cannot guarantee conclusive elections in 2019, means that he has acknowledged that there is a problem and he has resigned himself to fate instead of making effort to fix the lapses. Most of the elections conducted by him have been inconclusive and controversial. If somebody is not good at something, 2 years is enough to get Masters degree even in tough fields like nuclear science. He should educate himself, fix the errors of card reading machine, test it several times in addition to electronic collation of result or indeed any other method that may help. Credible election is basic but Nigeria's problem is systemic. People are therefore looking forward to kick out leaders that are anti reform and saying there are no guarantees is a sign of hopelessness.
